“We've been to the Mandarin Oriental restaurants for many years and the food is always excellent especially the Japanese and Dim Sum. Only now, my daughter and I decided to stay at the Mandarin hotel for a night out. When we do our booking, it said that a room upgrade is part of the package, but of course, we never got it because our room category is not part of the deal (as mentioned by the lady at the reception). This was not a problem but you should NOT mention free upgrade if there is a certain category required.
Nonetheless, the room was beautiful and the view stunning. Unfortunately, we had the worst sleep ever, because sleeping on the bed was like sleeping in a bowl that is not big enough for your whole body (you get the picture). It was just too late to complain because we only went to bed after midnight.
Luckily we booked a 1 hour and 30 minutes massage the next day to counter-attack the bad sleep.
In the spa room, we had to fill in a questionnaire asking what we like and where on our body would we like to concentrate during the massages. My daughter wanted a standard full body massage and I would like the masseuse to concentrate on my shoulders, neck and back. However, the ladies did exactly the same to both of us while we had 2 different requests (we were in a 2 person room). I did not make a complaint at the time because my daughter seemed to enjoy her massage. For me, that was more important.
And lastly, not to mention, your breakfast waffles were burnt and dry, your smoked salmon was too salty and your croissant was stale.
Overall, I’d still give it a 7 only for the fact that we still love the restaurants.”
