Easter Island
Easter Island (Spanish: Isla de Pascua, Polynesian: Rapa Nui) is one of the most isolated islands on Earth. Early settlers called the island "Te Pito O Te Henua" (Navel of The World). Officially a territory of [wiki=2e6507f70a9cc26fb50f5fd82a83c7ef]Chile[/wiki], it lies far off in the Pacific Ocean, roughly halfway to [wiki=1e257d79cd2dd7a09657597cee33bbe5]Tahiti[/wiki]. It is most famous for its enigmatic giant stone statues, built centuries ago, which reflect the history of the dramatic rise and fall of the most isolated Polynesian culture.
