“I’m giving the 2 stars solely to the kind and helpful staff & the nice pool. Everything else in my book was a 0-1. They also keep the grounds maintained! There are ALWAYS workers cleaning something on the grounds. There is a nice main pool if you’re looking for a fun vibe with some water activities and there is a separate location that has a “chill” pool with cabanas and hammocks. Okay, now the bad. Which is unfortunately a lot. The food was horrendous - I mean, we left to eat elsewhere or ordered in almost every single day. The times that we were stuck with the snack bar/buffet.. we DREADED. And the restaurants? You’re only allowed to book 1 restaurant for dinner every 3 nights. So on a week vacation, you can eat at only 2 of the restaurants. And it is only for dinner. We left, and paid, to eat ANYWHERE else on an all inclusive resort. That should tell you everything you need to know. Next, the entertainment (on the resort) was non existent. They host one single show nightly that lasts for 1 hour. That is it. And it is a nice show, but that’s it. There is no place to dance and drink, The lights and music get shut off at 10 pm. Okay, the alcohol. Oh my, the alcohol. It is SO watered down, you will end up drinking a gallon of juice before you even get a buzz. (The bartenders are so friendly though.) Here is my recommendation: GO TO 5TH AVE!! That is where you will find good food, drinks, shops, entertainment and a sliver of culture!! The taxis are super cheap to get here as well.”

“I stayed at this resort from 9/14/20 until 9/19/20. I want to write a detailed review because I personally rely on reviews to make my decision on where I want to stay. This has been one of the best vacations and stays I've ever experienced in my life. Viva Maya is relatively small compared to larger hotels in the area, but that makes it that much more comfortable. The walk from my room to the beach, restaurants, lobby, etc was no more than 3 minutes. I loved that I could get from one place to another without getting lost. My room was clean and comfortable, the cleaning staff does an amazing job at making sure everything is sanizatized prior to your arrival. When I arrived my temperature was checked and my luggage was sprayed with disinfectant. I was also asked to step in a special floor mat that cleans the bottom of my shoes. All the staff members wear a mask at all times as well. What truly stood out to me during my stay was the attention to detail and professional and kindness on behalf of all the staff. Regardless of the amount of questions I had about the hotel, activities, etc everyone was very kind and helpful. From the front staff, to the amazing servers at the restaurant... My husband and I joked that we received better treatment here than in top restaurants back home. The food is delicious, I highly recommend the Mexican restaurant at the hotel. I liked that the food at the buffet is served by staff so the guests are not all touching the same serving tools. The buffet area is always kept clean and the food is really good there as well. Some tips: Before doing a water activity, pool or beach go to the towel stand behind the pool bar and get your towels for the day. If you need a taxi somewhere simply go to the staff at the main lobby and they will call a cab for you. Also there is a chart posted at the entrance that shows how much it costs to take a taxi to the most common destinations. The night time shows start at 9:30pm I suggest arriving a few minutes before to grab some seats. The hotel offers lots of free a activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, riding a catamaran, etc. You need to book these activities the day off as availability is decided according to the winds and ocean quality that day. Arrive at the reservation kiosk at 9am to reserve one of those activities for the day. The kiosk is on the beach behind the camataran boats. There is a money exchange office, car rental office and excursion booking spot all in the lobby. My husband and I booked the snorkeling tour to Conzumel and had a wonderful time there.”
